Discussion

This was the third spit (beneath spits 011AD00046 and 011AD00053 and equal to the material in spit 011AD00057) of a loamy sand layer (Munsell 10YR 4/2), excavated across the waterlogged area to the west of the spring pool. It partially sealed a silty clay layer (011AD00048). At this level, no waterlogged material was recovered. Finds included an Anglian pot sherd and three fragments of Niedermendig lave. Also found was a flint scraper and a Roman pot sherd. Among the animal bones recovered was a cat ulna.
